Arturo Arriagada is a sociologist and holds a PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics (LSE). He is Associate Professor in Culture and Digital Work at the School of Communications and Journalism of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI, Chile). His research examines how technological change —particularly artificial intelligence, algorithms and digital platforms— is transforming work and labour cultures. He has studied the experiences of influencers and content creators, musicians and record labels, delivery drivers and app-based drivers, as well as sellers on digital commerce platforms.

He is Associate Researcher at the Centre for Social Conflict and Cohesion Studies (COES), Principal Investigator at the Millennium Nucleus on the Evolution of Work (MNEW), and Principal Investigator of the Fairwork project in Chile. He also serves as Head Coordinator of the International Research Network (IRN) SOUTH-STREAM. He has been a Visiting Researcher at USC-Annenberg and UPenn-Annenberg.

He directs the Social Media Culture Lab at UAI, which focuses on the analysis of digital communication and its social, political and economic implications. His research has been published in journals such as Convergence, Social Media + Society, Journal of Cultural Economy, and Journal of Communication. He is the author and editor of three books on media, communication and digital culture.
