Martina Piña is an academic and researcher in the Department of Journalism at Universidad Alberto Hurtado. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). She also holds a Master’s degree in Research in Social Communication (UPF) and is a journalist and graduate in Social Communication from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Since 2014, she has worked as a research assistant on projects related to the use of information and communication technologies. In Spain, she was a predoctoral researcher on the PLATCOM project (2020–2024), for which her thesis examined the informal learning of online reputation among platform workers in the collaborative economy. In Chile, she was part of TrenDigital, the think tank of the Faculty of Communications at PUC focused on media and digital literacy.

Her research interests center on the study of digital culture and the use of technologies in areas such as digital literacy, platform-mediated work, online self-promotion, cyberbullying, and others. She has published in academic journals such as New Media & Society, Convergence, and the Journal of Communication.
