Matías Valderrama is a faculty member of the School of Communications and Journalism of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, where he previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher. He holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies at the University of Warwick (United Kingdom), where he researched social media platforms and their controversies. He also holds a Postgraduate Award in Social Sciences Research from the University of Warwick, as well as a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

He is currently co-investigator of Fondecyt project 1261490 “Creative work in the age of generative artificial intelligence (GAI): an exploratory approach to imaginaries and practices in the creative industries in Chile” (2026-2030). He worked as a research assistant at the Nucleus Futures of Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR) and also on the SDT platform at the School of Design of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

His research interests lie at the intersection of digital technologies and society, exploring the social implications of various digital devices, including environmental sensors, drones, predictive models, social media platforms and self-tracking devices, among others.
